  • Community service achievement: Safe Humane Chicago / Anti Cruelty Society

She wrote in her essay, “Being from a Hispanic descent many people think that one doesn’t have the knowledge to pursue a career because of the hundreds of stereotypes people establish. I want them to know that I am a Hispanic with a brain full of knowledge ready to grow and learn from others. Being a Hispanic and a Latina from parents of Mexican descent is something I love and express it every day.”

Juan Franco

Juan Franco
  • He will be attending St. Olaf College in the fall
  • Carries a 3.9 GPA
  • Majors in Economics/Political Science
  • Community service achievement: Build-On / Know your Rights

He wrote in his essay: “I was alone when it came to education. I had to put in the best efforts I could and go the extra mile to ensure a positive learning experience. Now that I am well invested in the academic community I can help my younger brothers with their homework and teach them the ropes of being a good and responsible student.”

She wrote in her essay: “As a first generation student I have become empowered by the challenges that society has imposed on minorities. My inspirations and influences are derived from my family’s culture and background values. I was taught to be self determined and you never let people put me down.”

She wrote in her essay: “I am from a family where for any special event we gather together and talk for hours, share music, thoughts and laughter. The food has been a moment of tradition, my mother learned from her mother and my grandmother from her mother, and now it’s my turn to learn the recipes.”

Michele Sepulveda

  • Community service achievement: Build-on / Captain of Swim Team

She wrote in her essay: “It’s important to me to attend college because I know that I’ll have a lot of motivation from my parents. The sacrifices that they made to financially support me into making my life better it is something that I will carry on with me every time that I go to class.”
